Biking Stories

Dec 21, 2008 04:44

As I was biking down Mayfield at 1:30AM, some guy shouted,
"I'm going to get you!  You! Riding down the hill!"
(This doesn't beat the time when some drugged up asshole shouted "Watch out, motherfucker!")
For a little bit, I became paranoid because an acquaintance had told me of a story about some guy who was purposely mowed down by a car and died.  Granted it was only about "some guy" and the story could've been fabricated, it was the foremost thing on my mind.
There was also a coating of snow on the ground and a good number of cars on the road.
Normally, I wouldn't bike in snowy conditions, but the buses don't run this late.

Back in early November I was t-boned by a car for the 2nd time.
I was heading north on Lee Rd, when a car decided to make a left turn to go south on Lee Rd.
I had my lights on and there was a car no more than 15 ft in front of me, but this lady thought she could squeeze in between us.
I think there was a delayed reaction on her part because she ended up ramming into my back tire instead of my leg, which caused me to spin towards the sidewalk and out of the way of traffic.
She didn't even bother getting out of her car, and made that left turn when she had the chance.
She was at a stop sign, so she didn't pick up much speed when she hit me.
I walked away with only a few bruises on my leg, a twisted bike headset, and a smushed pedal.

My first t-bone incident sent me to the emergency room.
I better start wearing a helmet.

With my luck, nowadays, I have a feeling the next accident will leave me in the hospital for a few months.
