M'era Luna Report.

Despite dampness, M'era Luna was awesome. As with so many things, the energy to actually write about it properly is evading me. Right. Attempting to overcome the power of procrastination...

Nah. It's not working terribly well. Let's just try going through the bands we ended up seeing, or at least... err... as many of them as I can remember.

Saturday:
In Mitra Medusa Inri - I don't really remember these guys. I think they were ok, but they played first, and the tea was still working its way into my bloodstream so I wasn't fully... awake.
Osiris Taurus - Madness! Madness with bagpipes! (they describe themselves as Shamanic Pop)
(I'm informed that Limbogott and Potentia Animi were both cool, but didn't end up seeing either of them due to random circumstances)
Negative - I thought they sounded way too much like HIM at first, but then they randomly changed style. And kept changing style. As a result, I'm kinda at a loss for a summary. Some cool, some not so cool.
Autumn - cute little metal band. A for effort. Not really my thing, but you could tell they really wanted you to like them. Like a puppy. A puppy with eyeliner and really freakin' long hair.
NFD - stage presence.
The Cruxshadows - you know my thoughts on this subject by now. They kinda rushed through, as they were playing a waayyy shorter set than usual...
Combichrist - caught a little of their set from the back of an extremely over-crowded hangar, then went and got lunch. Yeah.
Schandmaul - A little bit like Runrig, but German and more goth (but then, most people are more goth than runrig, so that says little). And with slightly less forceful guitar. Good stuff.
VNV Nation - most amusing technical fuck-up to date: one of the images on the visualisation screen things they have was upside down for the first part of the show, despite much tinkering beforehand. The set, however, ruled.
...we collapsed before Skinny Puppy, unfortunately, due to excessively energetic bouncing during VNV. Left to get a drink and sort of never made it back. Ah well. I could hear some of the set from my tent, but only the drums really carried well. My feet hurt faaaaar too much.

Sunday
Scream Silence - decent band. Attracted small huddle of half-awake goths hiding under extremely black umbrellas.
Staubkind - err, I don't remember. I really don't. I think it was maybe kinda loud and angry? not even sure of that though. Ran away half way through to see...
The Vision Bleak - Giggle. Metal band singing songs about Cthulhu, and many topics which seem to be largely lifted from old horror b-movies. Made me laugh. Mentioned them in previous entry. They, aha, exceeded all expectations in unintentional sillyness. We laughed so much, therefore it was good.
Faun - Uh. They made Syl's ears hurt with static, so we left. They had skulls and a computer disguised as, I dunno, some non-high-tech thing.
Kiew - loud. You know how sometimes things are just loud and you kinda can't figure out what they actually sound like? Yeah.
Gate - I remember liking what I heard of these guys, but can't remember much more. They had a female singer. She wore a greenish dress. That's not helpful, is it?
The Birthday Massacre - Eee!
Trisomie 21 - Kinda cool. I'm getting more and more vague here, but the bands are blurring a little around the edges... :P
Deine Lakaien - Heard from a distance and wandered back in for the last few songs, sounded cool.
The Sisters of Mercy - !!!! kinda short set, probably because Mr. Eldritch was so fucking wasted, but awesome nonetheless. Played plenty of old stuff, including Anaconda. Also played Lucretia, which made me happy.

Other things about the weekend... humm. Oh yeah! Techies before VNV Nation. I mentioned the projection being upside down on one of the three screens? Well, this was after an amusing display involving a techie clinging desperately to the scaffolding holding up assorted lights and pieces of tech, trying to get all the projectors pointing the right way. the process was apparently agonising but, err, not entiiiirely successful. :P Ronan's face when he noticed was amusing (from concentration to slight bewilderment to realisation to extremely brief irritation, quickly followed by a small shrug which carried decided overtones of 'ah, fuck it'). Sunday: It Rained. Plenty. The area in front of the main stage kinda flooded a little bit, or err... a lot. straw materialised at some point in the afternoon to fill up the rapidly-growing swamp, which was just as well or small goths would probably have been lost forever to its murky depths.
Spent a lot of time on Saturday contemplating the fact that:
- men with lots of facial hair should not walk around all day in certain kinds of skirts.
- no one should wear yellow fake-fur jackets. It's just not good.
- people with a certain stomach mass should lay off the mesh shirts. I want to keep my lunch. Thank you.
- some men (not the ones with the beards) look unfairly good in skirts.
What else...
We put black lipstick on Andre. And then cowered with terror as we realised what we'd done. Feeeear!
We put black lipstick on Syl, and realised that while black lipstick doesn't look terribly good on many people, Syl is one of the few who it suits.
(it should probably be noted that we only HAD black lipstick because andy believes that it makes good eyeshadow)
Syl and I acted like a couple just for giggles on multiple occasions, leaving Andre and Andy looking confused. As is usual.
I spent a lot of time remembering that I speak even less German than I do French.
Despite shit language skills, managed to navigate train stations. If we'd had to ask for directions we might have been doomed, but we didn't, so it was all good.

There's probably more, but I'm tired now. I declare it to be an Update.
