I keep hearing mention of a Prohibition.

I remember there was a Prohibition act in America a few years ago, but not much beyond that. I was sure it had ended. And after seeing Blue's apartment the other day...

What year is this?

[ooc: for clarification, I'm not assuming Peter remembers the prohibition. More of an assumption that it was ( Read more... )

It's a curse.

It's actually 2008.

2008?

...That's nearly sixty years into the future.

Is it any consolation that you don't end up speaking German?

Why would something like that happen?

Did you?

....Germany....didn't...manage to invade?

No, I lived in New York.

Not Britain. We endured heavy bombing, but Germany never managed to take over.

Yes, that's what I meant! It's a consolation that you're not speaking German...

...anyway.

You and Caspian are settling okay?

It sounded as if you had implied Britain loses the war.

Caspian and I are settling in fine. It took some time to get used to everything, but I'm sure we'll be all right.

I don't doubt you will. But things are a bit...different. You're sixteen, right?

You don't have to apologise for it. It was just a misunderstanding between us.

I am sixteen, but I have been around for many more years that that.

Okay.

...don't I know how that goes.

Well here, sixteen year olds get free room and board, which is why it's important - no need to find a job right away unless you want to.

And Caspian's sixteen too, right?

That's quite a deal. Even though it's unnecessary, having a job would help out in any unexpected circumstances.

I believe so.

There are a lot of jobs around here, based on skills; and it's probably best anyway since a lot of little expenses aren't covered, like the fact that you're going to need to get more clothes.

By the way, Prohibition was boring; a lot more boring than this, anyway.

I'm sure I'll find something I'm good at.

Was it? I'll admit I didn't pay too much attention to it in class. It didn't seem that important.

Yeah....nothing much really happened during that time.

Except the birth of Jazz. Really, that's the most important event in the entire 20th century.
