Yesterday I saw two bluejays from the kitchen window, getting water out of a tray we'd been using for gardening that had water in it. So I decided we needed to have a birdbath out there. Because... BLUE JAYS! So Dad and I went to Home Depot this morning. I just wanted the traditional basin on a pedastal birdbath, but all they had were these expensive, fancy, plastic, sculptured, large recirculating water deals. Cheapest was tower o'barrels at 60, most expensive was a (admittedly impressive) faux stone arch to go up against a wall with a lionhead on it for 300. ! o.o Clearly this would not do. So I got a large planter and a huge plant saucer (plastic, concrete colored), set the planter on the ground upside down and put the saucer on top of it, and lo, bird bath for under 20 bucks (including the herb I bought on impulse because it had cute leaves). So that's out under the croton full of water and I'm hovering around the window waiting for bathers.
