First Signs of Spring

Mar 11, 2008 13:23

Remember when I threatened to bore you with every step of Bud the Avocado's development? I was not kidding! Mwah! Behold, he stands at ELEVEN inches high now and has his first set of true leaves unfurling at the top, all fuzzy and new.

And then there is what I consider the first sign of spring... the bluebells. Like the orchid tree, they aren't REALLY bluebells, they are little weeds that come up in the lawn, but the ladybugs like them, and I like them. One time, my neighbor tried to remove her lawn (long story, haha!) and in the spring the whole yard was covered with these! It was so pretty! (at least I thought so, I'm aware I was probably not in the majority) It looked like a mist of lavender hovering a foot above the ground. Anyhow, here's a closeup of the tiny blooms, all three of which would fit on a penny. The plants themself are spindly, delicate, and about twelve inches tall.

And I would like to take a moment to say "Hurray!" because I was supposed to get my blood pressure rechecked in April because it was looking a little high last year and of course I had all these grand plans to get in shape by then, and of course I have done NOTHING since but gain two more pounds... but I just got a call and they needed to change my appt. time and I said GREAT can we change it to MAY? So I have an extra couple of weeks to get my act together. *sets down pie* *leashes up dog*
