twenty five

I've never been to quite so many parties before coming to the City. Each one is different from the other. I rather like it.

Though I feel like there should be a balance. I guess the right thing to do would be to read or some other kind of studious thing. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I could stand to practice. That would be productive. Kate, ( Read more... )

There's a short series of knocks at Susan's door. It isn't too late for invitations is it?

Oh, it is never too late for invitations. Not in this household. Susan promptly opens her bedroom door. "Caspian, hello."

"Hello, Susan." He smiles to her. Caspian smells a bit like the ocean, having just returned from a walk with the doctor who shares a strong resemblance with her brother in his golden age.

"I had a thought, you know. Tomorrow night is the opening for a friend's 'club' and I had promised to be there..."

The word club sounds odd coming from his mouth, he thinks. He prefers the sound of a dance or music hall. It's all the same thing anyway, or so Caspian believes, because he is unfamiliar with the term burlesque.

"Would you like to come too?"

His hair does look as though the wind has had its way with it. And somehow it is always in a fair favoring manner.

"I would love to go with you!" The word club even in cards sounds like a weapon from Caspian, Susan understands what he means. This all means a gathering of some kind. Another to-do. They haven't been tiring yet.

"Which friend of yours?" He had so many.

Naturally. Ahem...

For the longest time he thought it was a weapon, and if not that then an organization for the appreciation and preservation of music and dance. Honestly.

"Charles Bass, he prefers the name Chuck. I would be honored to escort you there."

Susan will have to make due with her own hair. It has been rather well-behaved as of late.

Thankfully the confusion has been cleared since. The lingering effects are the association. It will never leave. Truthfully, Susan had not been in contact with clubs where one dances. That one is still new.

"Oh, I've spoken to him at least once before." When Peter was a dog. He was rather charming. Meeting him in person would be rather interesting. For a brief moment Susan thinks of Sirius. My that was some time ago. Susan presses her lips to halt her frown.

"I'm glad that you asked me." Excellent recovery. This is meant to be fun. And it will be.

"You have? That's good, you are not complete strangers then," he smiles.

Briefly he catches a twitch of her lips which makes him curious, but it's so slight he isn't sure if he actually saw it or not. He doesn't question.

"I am glad that you have accepted," Caspian's smile broadens again.

"He found Peter's photograph cute." Oh where did she put it. The mere mention of that day lightens up her thoughts. Her brother, the puppy.

"Of course I accept. Who else will be going?" Because usually the Narnian household goes together. It's only natural that this would be no different.

Who wouldn't find it cute? Remembering that day turns his smile into a grin too but Caspian is careful not to laugh. Peter's just down the hall after all. Fff.

"Well I will be meeting Eden there. Perhaps Blair and her friend Serena will also be in attendance. If that is true then surely Arthur will also be there," he says as if he is thinking aloud, which he is. Oh but as for the family...he leans in to whisper so that only Susan will hear him, even though they are sort of alone.

"Peter doesn't believe Lucy is old enough to attend so he is sacrificing his invitation to keep her company. Between us, I think he is still unhappy that Lucy thought he might be jealous of me."

It's a joke. Honestly.

Whoever didn't find peter the dog cute is not worth knowing. Susan will never say that. It's a thought of hers. And yep, he is just down the hall. Ssssh.

She leans forward as he does, straining to catch his whisper. For the sake of secrecy, she covers her mouth. No laugh, no questions. Then it will be just them. There's no flutter of romanticism, only the warm like a solid embrace. They'll go to meet friends. It should be a lovely time.
