[For Jaime.] Dinosaurs!

Mar 11, 2007 21:14

After the whole tsunami warning and spending way too much time in a compound now practically overrun with people, Lionel needed to escape the damn place. He figured he might as well take a walk down to the beach and see what kind of damage there was, see if everyone down in the Hamlet was okay ( Read more... )

Once the horses were settled and the worst of the storms had passed, Jaime had found himself wondering where certain people were. He also was curious about the dinosaurs. Keeping close to the treeline and keeping close to the side of the island that had been safe, he had seen several docile-looking beasts lumbering along and eating the landscape. Their size was enough to startle him, however.

When he heard the sound of two animals butting heads and the clicking of a familiar modern device, he headed further into the jungle. Good gods, what was Lionel doing? He strode forward quietly which was easily done since the terrain was sand and firmly tugged Lionel backwards once he was done taking another picture.

"What are you doing?" he asked as he glared balefully at the two dinosaurs and wondered if he ought to try killing one of them.

For a second, Lionel thinks maybe some other dinosaur's snuck up on him, but even after recognizing Jaime's voice his heart is still racing at double-time. He feels like if he gets any more shocks his heart is just going to give out soon enough.

"Christ, Jaime," he says, and closes his eyes as he catches his breath, "you scared me."

Jaime was vaguely proud of instilling some sort of fear in his friend's heart. He could scarcely recall the last time he'd successfully and stealthily crept up on someone. He moved to the other man's side and patted his shoulder briefly. "Sorry."

The dinosaurs were still staring at him with their beady eyes but it was their spiked domed heads that made him start to think leaving would be the best idea. He did not want to end up entirely crippled after all. "Are you done clicking your camera at them?"

"I think so," Lionel says, although the answer is a resounding yes. He has no qualms about stepping back and behind Jaime when the dinosaurs move closer to the trees, now more intent on looking at them than banging their heads together. "They can't get to us through the trees," he points out.

Jaime considered brandishing his sword but he wasn't sure he wanted to play with these two odd creatures. Or look like a fool in front of someone else although he thought he could manage to fight well enough if it came to that.

They have very short arms," he observed calmly before following Lionel, careful not to turn his back until more distance was between them and the dinosaurs. "You ought to have stayed in the compound."

"I know," Lionel says, stopping to stare back at their arms curiously. He couldn't see how they survived with such tiny arms or why they even have arms in the first place. "I wanted to go see if some friends of mine were alright. Their huts are closer to the beach."

"I suggest we go see and then go to the compound." And you can stay with the women and children until there are less things to click at.

He pushed Lionel along until they were even further away. The dinosaurs went back to fighting amongst themselves. Jaime suspected it had something to do with women. It usually did.

Lionel might have felt a tiny bit of regret for being forced away from the dinosaurs, but he just has to remind himself that they're dinosaurs and he's glad Jaime showed up. He feels safer, at least.

"They live down in the Hamlet, by the small waterfall," he says, and hopes they at least keep near the path or that Jaime knows his way around. "What were you doing out here?"

"Are you looking for Duck and Geoffrey?" Jaime asked, frowning slightly. He was a little concerned now since he liked both of those men. Duck still had to build him a castle but perhaps at the moment the Kingslayer could scarcely see the point of building one on such a stupid island.

"I was seeing if I could be of service to anyone. And wandering."

Lionel nods, frowning a bit. While he'd mostly wanted to check up on them because of the tsunami, now he just wants to make sure they're okay and not eaten by freaking dinosaurs. "Jack and Kate, too. They live next to Duck and Geoffrey."

Jaime did not know Jack and Kate but if they lived next to them, it wasn't any trouble. Not really anyway. "None of them considered the compound?"

"I think they wanted to check on their homes," Lionel says with a shrug. He hadn't known about the dinosaurs and doubted they did either. It just made him a bit more antsy than usual.

"After the storm?" Jaime asked. They should have waited. He couldn't imagine they would have much to check on.

Lionel nods at Jamie's question, frowning as the ground starts to get a little muddier the closer they get to the beach. "I was going to head to the beach after that, see what kind of damage there was myself."

Jaime could not understand why people wouldn't assume the damage was very bad and wait. He had little to no desire to see what had happened to the hut Arthur had worked so very hard on, after all. "All right."
