Hi~

Thanks for your offer - I’ll make sure to tell you if I notice anything off with Ryoki’s characterization, but so far I haven’t seen anything that’d look bad with him! Ryo’s a pretty difficult character to play, already because he’s constantly one gear above max. and you have my highest respect for tackling the challenge that’s him. :)

The main reason that sent Leo to the front line is frustration - with the situation and Ryoki, the fact that he can’t do anything about it, that venting his pent-up emotions it in the city or trying to turn them against himself is no option since others are going to prevent it like they did before… . Leo has it still fresh in his mind that kishin eggs were originally people and that he has/d the potential to become one himself, which makes him sensitive to the war and how it’s handled. For example, he still considers killing kishin eggs the same as killing people, which is one of the reasons why he can’t stand fighting with a Weapon - without a weapon, he can’t kill them, no matter what he does. But with one, it’s easy.

He also got a lot of frustration about how little people seem to care or to be willing to take anything bad serious - be it people’s reaction to hearing about what it means to be a Half, the reaction to hints of him or others having problems or all those heroic types going on about fighting evil and the Watch with their ‘violence to protect’ policy. To Leo, it’s his dilemma with Ryoki not noticing all over again, just that it’s a whole city instead of ‘just’ his best friend this time. Recently he kept being told about how good it is that he’s in Death City now if his world’s all that messed up and that it’s a wonderful chance to make a new begin - and he’s been angry about that, very angry, because he keeps getting confronted with violence in SC all the time and he can’t believe that he others can’t see or care about it. Combining this with the emotional uproar that Ryoki’s arrival sent him into made him to decide to do something that’s as stupid as it’s desperate and to make an example.

His logic about goes about like this: he’s going to get to vent his frustration, desperation and everything else on things that want to kill him and that he in turn can’t kill because he only uses a normal metal pipe as a weapon; if he dies during this, good, at least he won’t have to worry about anything anymore. If he survives he’ll have to return and face the shit back in the city again, but at least he’ll have a nice chance to shove reality in some people’s faces and to ask them how happy and nice they still think this world and its little war really is (and he also gets some cash that’ll hopefully make him less dependent on Shibusen).

I figured that it wouldn’t be very IC for him to walk around and say all that, though, which is why he kept pretending that all he’s in it for is the money. It’s a lie, but it’s one that seems logical enough (from street punk to paid thug, why not?) and that the other characters keep buying readily. Nobody he has talked to has second-guessed his honesty about it yet and neither did anybody wonder why he didn’t go for the reserves if he just wanted some easy, quick cash. I thought that what I was showing from him having other motives besides that as good enough, but considering your question I'll probably have to try better and make it more clear next time.

I hope this explanation is good for you and sorry for the Tl;Dr!

PS: Do you mind if I don't screen this?

Thank you for the explanation! I admit I love reading this sort of thing so, YEAH, don't mind me much when I ask these questions. I'm actually just curious, not trying to bother you or anything, I swear. And Ryo WILL point that out to Leo when he finally understands why Leo is afraid of him.

And I'm surprised! I didn't know Leo only fought with a metal pipe. No wonder Crona is stalking him.

But yes, I understand it now, thank you for taking your time to reply :3 and it's okay to leave this unscreened.

You're welcome!^^ I don't mind explaining my motives at all, it's a good way of looking back on what I did and reflecting on where I'm going with Leo right now. My only worry is that I tend to ramble for forever and three pages whenever I start explaining such stuff. |D

Yes, he does, he even especially requested it from Roy. And he'll butt heads with whoever tries to take it from him again, and if it's Armstrong! >|| I don't think Crona knows about the deeper meaning behind the pipe, though, since the stalking's mainly a running joke between me and KB.

Thank you~!
