Chapter 20, live and in person

I’ve been a stalker of this community for a while, leaving a few comments here and there, but I’ve never posted anything. I prefer the lurking lifestyle, but I have pictures that I must share. I haven’t even been lurking lately because I’ve been on a study abroad in Florence, Italy. And what’s only two hours from Florence?

Volterra! That’s right, a friend and I took the bus to check out the famous clock tower. Below are pictures depicting the actual Square in Volterra.

There is almost fear in posting this because the actual piazza isn't the neat square that SMeyer paints it to be, nor is there a fountain in the center. And to be honest after two hours and a bus change to get there from Florence seeing the square proved to be anticlimactic. I'm glad I've gone and had the chance to see, but some liberties were taken with Volterra.

Here is the clock tower. Sadly our bus didn't get us into Volterra until way after noon.

The bottom half of the palazzo showing how its awkwardly connected with other buildings that form the piazza.

A picture take from standing infront of palazzo with the Clock Tower looking across the whole piazza. See the lack of the fountain.

The entrance to the city. Technically it works as the exit, but the climb up to Volterra is so very scary.

A street lined with flags! I'm pretty sure Volterra has different clans like Siena and other such medieval cities. It just reminded me of the Saints Day.

But Volterra is full of its small alleyways. Most of Italy is actually.

Thus if New Moon is made into a movie and if they've got enough funding to film in Italy, I hope they don't film in Volterra. The square isn't large enough for the kind of festival that SMeyer was describing. Also, the only thing Volterra has in the sense of tourist attractions are the Roman theater and baths and their alabaster, making me think that the Volturi go hungry often.

If they have the funding I'd suggest using Piazza della Signoria in Florence. It's very large, and it's one of the few piazzas in Italy I've seen that actually has a fountain. Another plus is that the clock tower of the Piazza Vecchio was based of the clock tower in Volterra.
