(I orignally posted this on Myspace. A friend of mine asked me to post this in several other places)
a hot topic lately
I feel the need to write this. Those of you closest to me already know how I feel on this subject, but I just want to say it again....
Marriage, be it between a man and a woman, man and a man, or woman and a woman, should not be restricted. The way I see it, by telling a person they can't marry the person they love because they are the same sex is a form of discrimination, point blank.
Here's what bothers me the most- many people have been using the "excuse" of the bible. That's all well and good, and you can believe what you want, I'm not here to stop you from believing what you want to religon wise. The fact of the matter is, when our government was created, our fore Father's instilled the belief of the seperation of church and state. With that being said, what the bible says should not come into play with any laws regarding same sex marriage. As far as I am concerned, the bible should not shape any of our nation's laws, and going back on the precedent of my previous statement.
Here's another thing that people fail to forget- gays and lesbians can be religious too. And yes, there are many religons that do not look down upon them, and accept them with open arms- good for those religons! More importantly, don't forget that it's been proven that there is a gene that can determine if you are gay or straight (I'm not referring to gays who are that way as a result of a traumatic childhood experience, I am talking about honest homosexuals).
So ponder this- if God didn't want gays, why did he create them? Or even this- how would you feel if your sibling or best friend told you they were gay?
Don't discriminate, it's not right.
