Timetravelling ain’t exact science.
Cameron found herself in the middle of a jungle. It was nothing like a city. The only city-like sight was an old blue van parked a few meters ahead of her. Its lights were still on. John couldn’t be seen anywhere near. Cameron hoped he had made into the correct year and had nothing else to do but find out when she was, before she could figure out how to be where she was expected.
But all of this happened in a nanosecond, arriving at an unknown location, at an unknown time, alone. And within another one, she would have already killed a man.
He didn’t see where she came from. He was standing in front of his mission. There was nobody to stop him from pulling the trigger. And he did so. But before the bullet hit his target, a woman appeared in front of him and so did the gunshot she fired. He fell on his knees confused, trying to understand what had happened. How it could have happened.
But there wouldn’t be time for the simplest theory. He watched her kneeling and reassuring someone hadn’t been injured because of him, then standing up walking his way.
Machines are perfect, even when broken.
For Cameron, the ten year old she saved could be John Connor. The man she shot could be a traitor working for Skynet.
For Benjamin Linus, she was the perfect way the Island chose to stop Sayid from changing his future.
Because whatever happened, happened.
