Books, Authors, and Writing

This past weekend while UberGeek was at DefCon, the boys and I went to the bookstore (a favorite family pastime.) While there, I noticed a sign announcing the appearance of author, Deborah Grabien, for her most recent book, Rock 'n Roll Never Forgets. I didn't know if my Wednesday night would free up, but I marked it on my calendar.

Coincidentally, several months ago, mochi_tsuki told me about her last year, raving about her favorite The Weaver and the Factory Maid, which I bought (thank you quietselkie,) read, loved, and passed on to several of my friends. I have a second copy of the book at home, and I thought it might be an idea to go to the signing and see if I could get it signed for Mochi.

The end result is I went and the author signed the book.

The longer version of that is Deb Grabien is a delight. She read an excerpt from her new book, the first of a several book series, and it was easy to be intrigued by the characters, the set-up, and the mystery. She was informal, chatty, and welcoming, and absolutely knew exactly who Mochi was. She very graciously signed the book for her, after inviting me to stop by her live journal and friend her. I have done so, and I'm delighted to have met her in person.

She's a beautiful example of what an author should be in a public setting and in front of her fans.
