Finally the end of the week... well not that I was tired or anything, just more time at home to laze. I know the next week's gonna be crazy. So time off is a good thing now!
Today I got to meet our web designer and general design dude. It's his second day here and I got him working from the get go! Poor chap. Oh well, the crazy corporate life eh? Anyhow... he's designing my new brochure and I gave him some ideas on templates. Hope he gets the good stuff going soon! Ofcourse the morning power cut was annoying as ever and I spent some time out. Stupid thing, I sat at the reception area and was talking to this guy about stuff and didnt realize that it's probably the stupidest thing to do. Oh well, I learn the new stuff now! One and a half hours of no power and no pc got me just walking up and down and getting things to do w/o a pc. Oh well. We had a training session in the evening and I got this packet of brochures to read up on before that session happened, so I wasnt para vetti. Once the power came back on, I get another laptop and started on some work. We had to get a presentation done too and I got cracking on the material in there. Oh so for the firsts of the day. First time I have someone working with me and I'm giving him directions and stuff to get things done! Woohoo! Well, I'm still excited even though it's a tiny tiny thing ;) Also my first day in a new office room. My team member and I are sharing an office now and it will be so much better cos now we dont have to walk a flight of stairs to meet each other. And plus, I'll be away from a guy who thinks it's natural behavior to belch all day long. Not the small ones with excuse me afterwards.. the loud ugly ones and he's shameless about it. Granted the guy is nice, but man, that just annoys the crap outta me!
We also spent the morning talking to the new director of our team about ideas and stuff that we need to get done. I hope that now that we have him to report things to, stuff will move faster and we can finally get work done more efficiently and meet our deadlines. We've set a nice healthy target for ourselves and I would love to see us reach it. So for the past week, we've put calling people and setting meetings on a hold just so that we get our material set and then go on full swing. This way, we're not doing things haphazardly. It's a good idea and atleast set us on a proper route. I kept getting updates on the design guy's work and he seemed to know his stuff. Well let's see. I"m sure I'm gonna have him pull his hair out with the inputs I give! So pretty much the rest of the day went in talking to people and getting bits of work done here and there. We had this open source training thing from the guys at Red Hat. 2 folks came in who were known to one of my bosses and basically were gonna give us a run down of stuff in the open source segment. These guys were cool. We got around to introductions and we were general chit chatting before we got down to business. We got a total view of red hat and it's operations here in india. the structure of the company and what kind of work they do. They also went on to give us a lot of details about the red hat linux versions and what they come with and why they're better in a lot of respects. I have to agree with them. Everything on the windows platform is available in Linux too. Plus it's not made by a douche of a company like microsoft who cant' get their crap right after 20 years of windows. Oh well, I dont want to get into that cos I'll be writing all night! Ofcourse the session had it's regular bits of fun and it was more interactive to see how much we understood and how we could contribute to the stuff he was talking about. Ofcourse me and my big mouth had to ask him a bunch of questions... As someone told me "there are no stupid questions... there are only stupid answers". I just shot him with questions and tried to get the whole scoop and I think I got a good idea of this stuff. Ofcourse we had to get an idea of this stuff cos we're involved in development in that realm too. So if someone asks us, we're not staring at the wall and making jack asses of ourselves.
Anyhow this meeting ended and a pleasant surprise came to me. My First ever pay check!!!! I just couldn't believe it. There in my hands was money that was paid for my work done. My work in a place that I liked coming to everyday. My job that I had through my own efforts. A job I got thro my skills of talking and understanding marketing! I cherished that feeling. It's just the start. Many many many more to come. I didnt open it. I wanted dad to do so. I wasnt curious to know how much I got... knowing I got something was enough. Well, soon that thought was pushed out when my boss wanted me to try and finish the brochure as soon as possible. Basically it's gonna be my first weekend at work! LOL We're cutting it real short for a meeting next week and we need to get stuff done. I'll be at work for a short while tomorrow, but I hope to get the stuff done so that we're ready.
After this exciting day, I went straight to dandu mama's place for dinner. Dad was at b'lore so I took the chance to meet maami cos I hadnt met her since I got a job. Also maami had kolu at home. So I got there and was generally talking and it sruck me (ok reserve comments for this part ;) ) that I should keep my paycheck at the kolu and namaskaaram mama and maami. Yes I know.. it's not ice vecchifying or anything, it just struck me so I did it :P . Yes mom I know you are proud of me! And dont worry. I brought it home and left it with umaachi for dad to pick it up and do the honors. I'll probably just take a bit for my expenses and give the rest to dad. I'm sure he'll want me to deposit it but I guess i'll give him a cheque that he can use for whatever he wants to. And yes mom, that will be for the amman kovil at latteri. I will also go to the amma's house and do the needful there. When you come back, we can do all the other stuff you wanted to at all the kovils in town.
Ofcourse you've all been through this.. first paycheck and stuff n all. I just cant stop beaming like an idiot though! And yes, I will take requests! The only restriction is that you'll only get it when you come here in person. No long distance stuff except for white teddy :) On this note, I shall head to bed cos I'm dog tired. Been up since 5 am and have a long day ahead. Good night folks. Sleep in peace and wake up to a fantastic morning!
