So just got back last night from a 5 day roadtrip with friends. Where did we go do you ask? Well we left Burque on Tuesday and headed to Phoenix. There we saw U2 in concert at the University of Phoenix stadium where the Arizona Cardinals play. No words can describe the awesomeness of the show. I mean seriously...no words can describe it.
The Black Eyed Peas opened and while I was so so about them when hearing them on the radio, live they are incredible. They really got the crowd going and Fergie sounded awesome.
Then on Wednesday we left Phoenix and went straight to Vegas. We stayed at The Luxor which was ok. We only stayed there because we got a good deal on two Pyramid rooms. But the rooms were kinda blah...lots of brown. I had a view of Excalibur and the two Luxor towers. My friends were on the opposite side even though we asked for adjacent and had a view of Mandalay Bay.
We had a good time in Vegas. For Wednesday night we were able to get discounted tickets to the Tournament of Kings dinner show at Excalibur. We had wanted to do it but found $60 per person a bit much. However due to the down economy the discount ticket sellers on The Strip have tickets to all kinds of shows. We were planning on getting discounted cheap seats to KA but found they had Tournament of Kings tickets for only $40. We figured it was a good deal since you get dinner and a show and went with that.
And we had a really fun time. The food was actually pretty good. You get tomato soup in a bowl that you have to drink since there is no silverware. For dinner you get a cornish game hen, vegetable, potatoes and a roll. They seat you in sections named after different countries and you root for the king of your country. We were in Ireland. And true to the Irish we were loud. Plus our king was hot to boot. We had a really fun time and I want to do it again.
Thursday we did the Shark Reef at Mandalay bay and had high tea at the Four Seasons. The tea was nice, not sure if I would do it again. I like tea but it just seemed rather...stuffy in there. Then we got to see The Lion King at Mandalay Bay. OMG...that show was incredible. The talent they got for that show just blew my mind. If you are ever in Vegas try to get seats, it is worth it.
After the show we wanted to go to the Ghirardelli soda fountain. To do so we took the monorail and had to get off at Imperial Palace. Let me say I was not impressed by Imperial Palace. It just seemed like the armpit of The Strip. The douchiness level was off the charts there. But we got our ice cream and then saw the fountains at The Bellagio. After that we went to Planet Hollywood and had Earl of Sandwich. Usually I can only get the deliciousness of Earl of Sandwich at Disney World when I go on vacation. But when I found out that Planet Hollywood had one I knew we had to go. So at like midnight I treated my friends. And they agreed...it was good food. My sister is totally jealous since I couldn't bring her home a sandwhich.
But after that man were we beat. So first we were going to walk from PH down to MGM and take the walkways across but there was some kind of water line break in the street and we couldn't go anywhere. So we had to backtrack to Paris and take the monorail from there. Walking through MGM is like walking through a maze. And we had to cut through New York New York. And while I would like to stay there sometime the smells of the second level that you walk through to get to Excalibur...not appetizing. So many food vendors and all. Though my friend Chris and I did right the rollercoaster. Had fun but man did the harness make my shoulders sore.
I can't remember which day it was...think it was Thursday we ate at the new Hard Rock Cafe on the Strip. And the food was good.
Friday I can't remember much of what we did. I do know we went to The Mirage to see the dolphin habitat and the secret garden with all the tigers and lions. I do know I doubled my money at the slots there. Course that is not hard to do when you only put $5 in a penny machine. Then we went to The Forum Shops at Caesers so my friends could buy a train set for their son at FAO Schwarz. There I found a Chronicles of Narnia edition of Monopoly. So yes I had to buy it. Then back to our hotel to rest for our second U2 concert of the trip.
The drive out to Sam Boyd Stadium was hell. The drive around Sam Boyd to parking was hell. The lines for food and the bathroom were hell. However the show rocked. And this time we were on the floor. In Phoenix we shelled out major bucks for actual seats. This time we went GA and stood on the floor. Yes we stood the entire time. Except for me. I had a huge blister on the ball of my foot so I did sit on the floor a couple times. And I got my hand tromped on by a barefooted drunk chick. There were so many drunk people there...I kid you not. And after the show people were wondering where to get more beer. But the show rocked as usual.
The drive out from Sam Boyd was horrid. No traffic control what so ever. Just a giant cluster fuck. Show ended at 11:30 and we didn't leave the parking lot till 1. We were so beat when we got back to the hotel. I went straight to bed. Woke up the next morning, packed, went over to Excalibur for Krispy Kremes and hit the road.
The drive wasn't bad. Congested over Hoover Dam but that is normal. Drive through AZ was long and boring again as per normal. Then we get to NM...should be the home stretch right? Wrong. Some fucker at the DOT decided it would be a great idea to close the only way into town at 7 PM at night for some kind of filming. It took us over 2 hours to go maybe 3 miles. To say we were pissed was an understatement. So instead of getting home around 8:30...got home closer to 11. Not happy...not happy at all.
But we have decided we want to go back to Vegas...just not until 2011.
