snagged from
geekbynight Meme Two: If you had to delete all but five of your stories, which five would you keep and why? (Or ten if you're more prolific.)
I have written a lot, but it feels weird talking about myself five times, let alone ten. So five it is.
1)
Wet Hot Caprican Summer. (BSG)
Because writing this literally changed my life. And that's not an exagerration by any means. I made two good, good friends from it.
alissabobissa and
spinkkitty They read it on a whim (I'm assuming), and another person I knew a little bit at the time,
lunar47 mentioned to them that I was a guy. Which, unbeknown to me, is a rarity in fandom. I guess some kind of intrigue came out of that, and it all snowballed from there. To the point where there were endless hours of messaging, texting, and the culmination of all of us attending Dragon Con together. To top that off both
alissabobissa and
spinkkitty moved to California, where we lived in geek squalor for a period. So yeah, all that happened because I got a fic bunny about Kara Thrace having braces. Who'd have thought?
2)
push that button, self-destruct. (BSG)
I love Kara Thrace, and I don't care who frakking knows! I guess I just feel like I really got into her head space for this one. Despite writing in second person, a style I'm not fond of reading but will write eagerly for some reason, I was completely satisfied with how it came out. I always want to do the characters justice, and judging from the response I got, it seems like I did.
3)
Hey There, Bluebird. (Supernatural)
This was incredibly fun to write, which considering the inspiration for this, seems kind of funny. An Irish movie called Disco Pigs, starring Cillan Murphy and Abby from Harper's Island, about two best friends that are so connected they socially don't grow out of their adolescence. It's really an odd and kind of depressing movie, but in the end the connection they shared is what really clicked with me. And for whatever reason Sam and Jo popped into my head, so I ran with it.
4)
Boy Who Fell to Earth (T:SCC)
My last hurrah in the Terminator fandom. I knew it wasn't going to come back for Season 3. There was vague hope, but the pessimist in me just had a feeling. Anyway, Born to Run is one of the best season finales of any show, and the fact that it ended up being a series finale is kind of fitting in retrospect. It was my good-bye to John Connor, because for whatever reason, I just can't seem to write for shows that are no longer on the air.
5)
Jet Boy, Jet Girl (BSG)
My version of how Lee and Kara met. Any of my Battlestar friends know the things that intrigue me most when it comes to the show: pilots, the colonies, and the friendship of Lee Adama and Kara Thrace. I think this particular story encapsulated my love for all those things. Was a breeze to actually get all the ideas I wanted down on paper. (I think I wrote it in two days, over the span consecutive lunch breaks.) And I love it when that happens. There is tons of academy fic out there that far surpasses mine, but I had a blast tossing my hat into the ring.
