I'm a teacher...I guess

Well, as of today my classes are over. It's kinda scary to know that all of my methods classes are over...all of my explicit training is done. Now all thats left is student teaching. I was really hoping that this semester something magical would happen. That somehow I would be transformed from a student into the teacher. And while I do feel like I've learned alot this semester, I still really don't feel like a teacher yet. I know that I still have 8 weeks of field experience during which I will learn tons as I attempt to turn all of the theory I've learned into practice, but I'm just really scarred that I'll crash and burn. What if I suck at teaching? Deep down, I think I know that everything will be fine...I've taught lessons before and everything went well, but I'm just really nervous at the amount of responsibility that I will have this time around.
I'm meeting with my mentor teacher, Mrs. Miller, tomorrow at the elementary school to introduce myself, get a tour of her classroom, and plan what kinds of activities I'll be in charge of, so hopefully by tomorrow night I'll be feeling a little more confident about the rest of the semester.

On a less responsible and less depressing note, my roommates and I had a fiesta Monday night, with velveeta chili cheese dip and Margaritas!! You know that somethings wrong when your in class feeling a teensy bit hung over...and it's Tuesday! But my roommates (the good ones) are so nice and fun! I just couldn't say no to Sex And The City accompanied by chili cheese dip! We had so much fun, the only downer being that my crappy roommate decided to join us.

On Tuesday, my first day of field experience, I have to introduce myself using a Me Bag. Basically a bag full of stuff that's supposed to help the students get to know me and relate to me. But I have no idea what to put in it! I figured I'd put a Harry Potter book because a lot of kids like those and that would help me form a link with them, but I'm stuck for any other ideas that would be interesting to second graders....help!

I was very excited on Friday to spend a good hour in the library just browsing for pleasure. I checked out a bunch of books and finally feel whole again now that I'm deep in the middle of a good book. I guess I'm probably a nerd, but I just get so excited knowing that I've got a stack of good books just waiting on my list of things to read next. I guess that's why my emphasis area is to be a reading teacher.
I started with The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants...I know, I know, all anyone cares about is whether or not Alexis Bledel will be naked in the movie (that stupid adulteress with bad hair) but the books are actually really really good. I'm half way through the second book, The Second Summer of The Sisterhood, right now and I can't put it down!

Well, now that I've brought it up, I think I'm going to go read some more of my book before bed.
Sweet Dreams Everyone!
