Only 10 days after Strider came into my life, I was the proud owner of him. That was Thanksgiving Day 2005...
This is us on that day:
I was only doing groundwork with him at that point, while my coach and trainer worked to give him the basics of under-saddle work.
By the spring of 2006, I was riding and doing lessons with him. He was teaching me almost as much as I was (on occasion) teaching him.
This is us in April:
and these are from a lesson in June:
We had a great summer including going for a hack around Constance Bay and also tagging along to a show at NNEP where I just rode him around to let him experience the atmosphere at a competition.
Alas, our partnership was cut (tragically) short when he passed away on December 21, 2006.
Not a day goes by that I don't feel the ache of his loss in my heart. He has changed me for the better.
I miss you, my Strider and will always love you.
Winter Solstice really is the longest night of the year for me, in more ways than the literal.
