The red shirt

I was at the gym today and although I do not know many people here in Ithaca (that weren't bank employees) when I started going there I met this older guy, Craig, who remembered me from the Nines (where I waitressed last year). So whenever I see him there we always exchange pleasantries, and talk about teaching (he's a college instructor as well). Well today he waved me down while I was getting the cleaner for the machine that I was on and says "I love your shirt, thank you so much".

I was wearing my "I Support Equality" tshirt for Coming Out Day this year. And then he says "I am one of those people you are supporting, and I am thankful that you are proud enough to wear it in big letters on your shirt."

I told him I was happy to be an Ally, and told him about SUNY Oswego's program every year. He was really touched. It made me think about how tough things are, especially for an older generation of gay and lesbian people. I guess working in the Arts and at a liberal college campus we (I) take for granted the openness of that particular community.

I support EVERYONE having equal rights, rights that are basic and should not be a gift handed out as the government sees fit.

I consider myself humbled by this very awesome man :)
