Just wanted to share a couple of things that I found interesting.
1. My vole, Crackers. Okay, he's not really MY vole, he's a wild animal who occasionally forages for food in my dining room (rather successfully, I might add.) I don't even know if he is a he. But I have named him and called him mine because I just adore him. Yesterday I heard some little noises in my dining room, so, suspecting crackers, I crept in to have a look. When he noticed me, he scurried back toward his hidey hole, but managed to run smack into a table leg. It was the highlight of my day. I call him Crackers 'cuz he cracks me up.
2. This Christmas season I received a photo-card from some people I didn't know. I stared at the photo for a minute, trying to figure out who these people were and how I knew them before bothering to check the envelope. Yep, turns out they weren't sending me a photo-card at all. The card was addressed to somebody named LLoyd, who lived on Derbyshire, not Devonshire Lane, and who, more importantly, lived in Manchester, England. One can only wonder how the U.S. postal service could have gotten the street number correct, the street almost correct, but just completely blew it on the country. And the city, for that matter.
So I sent the card on to the correct recipient, but since I had torn apart the envelope, I had to put it in a new envelope (with a note of explanation) and go through a lengthy explanation at the post office trying to convince them that the error was actually theirs, not mine. I would have thought it was obvious that I did not deliver a letter from Ohio addressed to England to myself here in NY, but there it is.
Anyway, what I wanted to share was the lovely Christmas card I got from Mr. Tony Lloyd in Manchester. He wrote:
"Dear Jennifer,
Thank you so much for taking the trouble to send on my Christmas card. It is alwas a relief to know that human systems fail even in this high-tech age, but that human kindness does not. I hope you had a great Christmas and whish you a a successful New Year. I hope this gets to you!"
Isn't that lovely? It just warmed my heart. That, and watching a vole smack his head against a table leg. Yep, it's going to be a good year.
