So I am sort of crazy and Kaitlin and I went to see Guys and Dolls again last night. I know. But it was the last night with the original cast (now Sky, Adelaide, and Nathan are being replaced with BBC actors) and it was an amazing show, so we decided to go again. I thought we were pretty insane for going again (since it meant camping out again) but some of the people we met in line were seriously crazy. There were two women who were buying tickets for the matinee and evening shows, and one of them had seen the show 30 times. Thirty. The other one was obsessed with one of the chorus guys, so much so that she flew to Germany four times to see him in a show he was in there. He didn't even have any lines! There was also a girl who told us she was really hoping she had enough money in her bank account to get tickets. Like, she only had fifty pounds to her name, and she was worrying about spending it on a musical. Personally, I would have saved it for something a little more necessary (like, I don't know, groceries?) but whatever. There were also some people who arrived at the theater at 5 pm and camped out until 10 am the next day. It was a bit frightening.
The show was great, though. We were at the far end of stage right this time, so we got to see a lot more of the chorus than before. Some of the random things they would say to each other during songs and stuff was pretty hilarious. Since it was the last show there were a few funny things thrown in - most notably when Jane Krakowski (Adelaide) flashed the audience after a dance number. At the end most of the cast was in tears, including Ewan. The curtain call went on forever.
Now it's only seventeen days until I go home, and I'm not really sure how I feel about that. London is definitely home now, and I don't think I'll ever come here again and not feel that way. Britishisms don't faze me anymore, and they've definitely worked their way into my vocabulary. I don't go around saying things like "Bloody hell!" or anything, but I definitely call elevators "lifts" and say "car park" accidentally. I'm also going to miss big city life. I love being able to drive places, but the Underground is a great way to get around. I'll also miss the diversity of London. Going to back to homogeneous MN will be very weird. And I'll miss not being able to go out for great Thai, Indian, or Chinese food all the time. There are good restaurants in the Cities, but not anywhere near my house or GAC.
And this just cracked me up, as it is such a good example of Britishness. From the back of a package of Kraft cheese: "Kraft Singles are proper tasty - top grub in a sarnie, on toast, burgers, or beans!" A sarnie is a sandwich - I'm not sure why (could be an example of abbreviation or Cockney rhyming slang, which baffles me). Also, my new favorite British word is "phwoar". It's an exclamation, roughly the equivalent of a wolf whistle, but I just love the spelling.
