Racism?
I have heard about all these people getting up in arms about Arizona's new law that local police, when already having an encounter with someone, can ask about people's immigration status, and arrest people who are in the US illegally. So many people are screaming that it is racist against Hispanics.
I just have to wonder though - what are all these people saying? Are they saying that the only people in the Arizona illegally are Hispanics (Mexicans)? Are they saying that it's unfair because Hispanics or Mexicans can't be expected to follow the law? Do they think that they aren't smart enough to be here legally? I'm in a place where we have illegal residents from all over the world. Proximity to Mexico isn't a foolproof argument either, being as people like Rifqa Bary's family came from Sri Lanka through Mexico.
I don't know, but I'd like to avoid as many situations like this as possible.
