Time to Say Goodbye

I have some sad news to report:

My lab, Vinnie, has been diagnosed with cancer. My dad called me tonight and told me about it. It has started in her kidneys and is moving into her lungs. We aren't quite sure how much longer she will live.

Sadly, pure-bred large breed dogs live for an average of 8 years.

I hope that she goes peacefully. I'm not quite sure if they will put her down and let her peacefully go to sleep and not wake up. It would be nice to go back home sometime before she passes away but I don't know how much longer she has.

I feel bad for Katie. She was really attached to Vinnie. It's hard because she had lost her equivalent to a grandmother a couple months ago. To lose a pet when you're a child sucks. I remember when my hamster Houndini died. That was the first pet that I lost. Charlie's death (it will be a year on Halloween) was extremely sad because he didn't go peacefully, but he lived until he was almost 16. I told Katie that I would give her photos of Vinnie that I took most recently. I had to hold back tears when I spoke with Katie over the phone a couple minutes ago. Her tone was very sad but I told her that Vinnie lived a good life and we will hope that she will go peacefully.

Vinnie, you've been a great pet. I'm sorry to see you go at a young age, but you were and always will be loved dearly.

I will update soon with happier news and the more recent events.
