Iowa Vacation 2008: On The Road Edition

Dec 26, 2008 08:58

So right after Christmas with my family, Amanda and I went back to the house and unloaded the presents, loaded our luggage and the dog, and got on our way.

Yesterday we drove from Georgia to Tennessee to Kentucky to Illinois, and stopped for the night in Springfield, IL. I drove for 10 straight hours and could have driven for more, but both of our parents were practically begging for us to stop for the night, so I begrudgingly stopped and fell asleep immediately. Motel 6 is pretty awesome and cheap, and they allow pets! Today, Amanda is taking the wheel and we're still plowing through Illinois.

Things in the car are really good, and drastically better than the road trips of my youth, because of the following gadgets:

TomTom GO 730 GPS
Dell Latitude D620 with Verizon EvDO card and power inverter
2 iPod Nano 8GB full of comedy, audiobooks, and Paul and Storm's complete library
2 Nintendo DS Lites with flashcarts and tons of games
Playstation Portable with custom firmware and tons of games

So, yeah, things are pretty cool here in the car =) My favorite part about not driving is getting to be on the computer, otherwise I'd probably just drive the whole way, since it's something to do.

Argus is doing really well. He's just curled up on his bed in the backseat. During the last stop, we videotaped him being in the snow for the first time, ever. He was really happy and ran around a bit, but it's hard to tell if that was excitement at the sight of snow, or just being out of the car for a few minutes.

Right now we are 260 miles away from Mason City, IA. Just about 4 hours to go!
