====================
Seo Joo Hyun was not a quitter. She was gifted with the steel-like determination to never give up until she knew that she has put in her all. It was what she was taught by her parents and it became something that she carried over to her personal relationship, with Jung Yong Hwa.
Being both idols, they knew it was already difficult to find the courage to pursue what they have privately and it even more to maintain it with the crazy world they live in. The endless schedules and leave them unable to meet for months. The hordes of anti fans waiting eagerly for them to make that little slip. Despite it all, they managed to pull through as a couple. However, it is not without arguments, hurtful remarks and a whole lot of trust and the love they have for each other to get over the little trials and bumps that any normal couple will encounter.
She was always the calm and collected one in the relationship. She was always thinking and worrying their actions or his little bouts of spontaneity. Often, she was providing him a logical view of things while he will always brush it off and tell her to “live for the moment, baby.” It was not to say that she was only serious and uptight all the time. When she does let her guard down, she can be like any normal girl who is sweet, affectionate and playful toward the guy she loves.
On the other hand, he was the easy-going and more often than not being the choding that he was well known for. It was really what you see on the telly was what you are going to get if you are ever lucky enough to meet him in person. He was always thinking constantly the different ways to make things interesting between them. He would irritate her to no end with his childish antics. She will always hit his arm in exasperation but deep down he knows she enjoy it. They could not be anymore different but in the weird way, they click like two pieces of a puzzle.
As she packed her bag, checking for any last minute items that she might have missed out, she could not help but think how she miss him. Looking at the phone, it has been exactly a week since they last talked, the last time they saw each other and it was also their last argument before they parted.
She was tired, both physically and mentally. She needed to get away from Korea, from all the scrutiny and in a way from him. She needed to be Seo Joo Hyun first. She needed to breathe…
====================
Jung Yong Hwa knew he messed up and screwed it big this time round. He knew that things with his girlfriend had been rather delicate lately. They have been really busy with their careers thus having less time for meet ups and the once in a blue moon secret dates. He knew with all the restriction that comes with their choice of profession there are bound to be conflicts in a relationship. However, he never expected her to leave without a word.
They were arguing a lot more lately over the little things and the smallest hurt. She has always been tolerant and they will always manage to work things out. Even during the two years when he was away for army duties, they were still going strong. However, not this time when he is caught yet in another scandal, she broke down, telling him that she could not take it anymore.
“It is getting too hard. I feel like I am suffocating. Let's take a break, a breather.”
“Why? You don't love me anymore? The rumours are false and you have to know that. There is no one else but you for me, Joo Hyun.”
“I know those reports are false and that you will never do that. I do love you. Always but I feel that I am not Seo Joo Hyun anymore. I need to find myself again. I think we need a short break and then I will come back to you.”
He could never forget how her eyes pleaded with him to understand and to accept her decision. She promised him she would return to him but for now she needed some Seo Joo Hyun time. Her eyes lost the trademark sparkle that made him fell for her since the very beginning. Behind her smiles for the cameras, he knew she was mentally tired and exhausted.
He could understand her need for a break but he is a persistent guy. He pretty much knew she was The One for him since that first met on a certain February night years ago for a show. She was pretty much everything he looked for in a partner. As much as she needed to discover herself, he was determined to discover it with her, even if it means following silently behind her.
====================
The sights and sounds of Japan more specifically Hokkaido, was just what she needed. The quietness of the town calm her since everything was moving at a slower pace unlike the fast paced life in Seoul. She smiles as she remembered in one of their interviews that she and the rest of her sisters would like to visit Hokkaido and now she could really do so.
“This is such a beautiful place, Hyunnie.” Hyoyeon muttered beside her as they stepped off the bus opposite the hotel.
“Hmmm, it is unnie.” She smiles as she took in the atmosphere.
If there was one of her sisters that Joo Hyun felt that she could confide in anything, it will be her roommate, Hyoyeon. She has been there giving Hyun the advise and the listening ear from the first time she was paired with Yong Hwa. Hyoyeon was also the invisible helper for the couple especially covering for them so that Yong Hwa and Hyun could meet up in public successfully.
Therefore, it did not came as a surprise to Hyun to find a short figure standing beside her looking at the departure board at Incheon International Airport.
“You think we could just let you go off on your own like that, maknae? We are your sisters and I am entrusted to take care of you on your journey of self discovery.” She mentioned to Hyun with a flourish before giggling like a crazy school girl.
If there was anyone who knew about the couple's recent problems, it will be Hyoyeon. She knew how hard her youngest sister has put into the relationship and it hurts her to see Hyun look so dejected and lost at times. It was not easy to maintain an idol relationship since her relationship with Jungshin would not be called a walk in the park. However, being not as famous as the YongSeo couple that Yong & Hyun are affectionately dubbed as, allowed she and Jungshin to date in between the blurry lines easier.
Being in Hokkaido was just what she needed, Hyoyeon and her took the time to sightsee and recharge. However, she was puzzled since she kept having the feeling that somehow Joo Hyun felt as though her estranged boyfriend was actually here in the same country as her. When she shared her concerns, her sister just laughed it off saying the CNBlue is in Korea right now.
“If that is true then why am I receiving red roses at our hotel room door every morning?” She questioned her sister suspiciously who said nothing but shrugged her shoulders.
====================
The place still looked the same since the last time Yong Hwa visited the place with her when they were filming. It was here that she forgiven him for starting the no contact phase as a step to get closer to one another and a way for them to evaluate their feelings.
It was needless to say that she was hurt and confused by his hot and cold treatment. After all, it was her first time liking a guy so how was she to know the things people who like each other do. However, not to be outdone, she gave him a taste of his own medicine which he would gladly admit that it was 10 times more lethal.
It was here in Kawagoe that he explained to her and seeking her understanding for his misguided actions. It was also here that they decided to go slow but in the direction towards being in a relationship at the end. He sighed at the thoughts as though it was just yesterday that he was here with Hyunnie marvelling at the sights and sounds of her sweet potato town.
They are technically on a hiatus from their relationship, one that he was not agreeable right from the start. It was not a total break but just a little breather for her. He knew that the last reports hurt her quite a fair bit since it was her first relationship and she felt a little insecure. After all, he is to the media, a single and eligible bachelor but little do they know that he only has eyes for a certain SNSD girl by the name of Seo Joo Hyun.
He was determined to win her back, start a fresh with her that would explain why he is in Japan with her instead of Korea where he was supposed to. He has to thank Hyoyeon for keeping him informed about their whereabouts. It was he who has been in Hokkaido with her, giving her flowers with every intention to sweep her off her feet again. He wondered if she suspected that it was him who was sending her flowers to her door every morning.
“You both are being idiots. One is an idiot who is not sure of herself and cannot believe that her boyfriend only has eyes for her. You are an even bigger idiot for letting to the cameras catch you at all the wrong moments.” Hyoyeon chided him when she came over to their dorm the last time.
“However, she is my sister and I love her so much therefore I will help you but only because I think you both are prefect for each other and the rest of the girls will kill me if I don't.” She sighed as she explained in exasperation.
He entered the temple where they once made a wish for a better relationship. He smiled in memory as he remembered how she was so secretive or her wish and not showing it to him until she was done. He remembered the way her pony tail tumbled over her shoulder and that just made him want to reach over to run his fingers through it.
As he walked to spot where they hung their wishes the last time they were there, he noticed that the spot was filled to the brim with wishes from fans who visited the same temple. However, it was not the sheer amount of wishes that hung close to theirs but the familiar figure of the girl that stood in front of it…
====================
Joo Hyun was standing and just staring silently at the little wooden board that she and Yong Hwa once wrote during the last time they visited the temple. She still remembered how she was so excited and happy that she would be spending a day with him. They were so happy then, she thought to herself as she fingered the little wooden board that still hung at the same spot after so many years.
“It is a surprise that ours is still here isn't it?” A familiar voice asked from behind her, making her lips curl automatically at the sound of it.
She smiled to herself; somehow she knew that he was here in the same place with her ever since she landed with Hyoyeon about 2 weeks ago. It will definitely explain the reason she gets flowers everyday.
“Hello, you came to Japan too? Aren't you supposed to be in Korea recording?” She asked as she turned to face the man she came to sorely miss during their little hiatus.
“I was but all I kept thinking was you, about us and our relationship that the boys asked me to come over since they knew you and Hyoyeon are coming to Japan.”
They then lapsed into silence as they stood there smiling at each other. She had forgotten who moved first since they were hugging each other before any of them realised what happened.
With a desperate sense of longing, he claimed her lips. Murmuring in between kisses how much he loved and missed her during the time she was apart. She then realised how idiotic she was to doubt him and them. She remembered all the good times they shared and how even when they are at odds with other, she still loved him.
“I know sometimes it is just so hard that you have the feeling to give it up or a time where we just hate each other's guts but always remember that I love you and no one else.”
He told her when they were sitting at the balcony of the hotel. He insisted in following her like a lovesick puppy, ignoring her request that he heads back to Korea. He was just so pushy that she was left with no choice but to relent, trying her utmost best to ignore him but he just would not let her do that.
It was like discovering why she fell in love with him all over again. His random bursts spontaneity, cheesy lines and his lingering stare on her as though he would like to commit every detail about her so that he would not forget. During the remainder of her break, he was just doing the things that make her fall for him all over again but this time it felt like it was double the intensity for her.
“I love you too. I came to realise that too. It seems easier now. I have not been happy for a while now I guess the pressure got to me. I just need a break.” She sighed as she leaned her head on his shoulder.
“If you run again, I just have to chase you back no matter how far you go. That is how important you are to me.”
Looking at the girl beside him, he smiled. The moonlight casting a soft glow on her, highlighting her goddess-like features that never fail to make his heart thud just a tad quicker. He noticed she looked more visibly relaxed, the sparkle in her eyes were back and she look more like the girl he is in love with.
Smiling, she leans in to give him a kiss under the moonlight. A soft sweet kiss that held an unspoken promise.
“I do not have to run anymore..."
