4. Family Resemblances

Do you resemble anyone in your family, in looks or temperament?

In looks, I am very obviously my father's daughter. The only parts of me that look anything remotely like my mother are my hands. My hair is extraordinarily curly (read: natural tight ringlets) that comes from both my father's mother and my mother's father. I am short, as is my father's side of the family. My mother is the shortest of her side (she's 5'1"), but the next shortest of her five sisters is 5'9". I've been told that my voice sounds like hers, and both she and I sing alto.

In temperament, I'm an equal mix of my father's New York City side and my mother's Midwestern side. I can make conversation with almost anyone, I can be loud and sarcastic, and I like life to move quickly (NYC). I also favor logic, am an old-fashioned Lincoln-type Republican (meaning "people have the right to do as they like with themselves"), and am a true "Show Me" kind of person, favoring action over rhetoric. Both of my parents have very strong feelings about duty, financial responsibility, and how people ought to be treated, which I've carried on in my life.

Going further back, my namesake (my great-grandmother on my father's side) didn't get married until she was 33, which was shocking for that time. I definitely seem to be on track to meet or exceed that record. ;)

My mother's side of the family, all the way back, is very musical. They all play the piano and at least one other instrument in addition to singing, which I've carried on.

Thanks for the question!
