Verbal Morphology, Part III: Number Suffix

Aug 07, 2012 17:36

The next suffix in the fully structured Siye verb is the number suffix. This suffix indicates the grammatical number (null, singular, dual, paucal, plural, or pantic) of either the grammatical subject or the grammatical object of the sentence (note that this is the grammatical object, rather than the semantic patient - this is important in causative constructions). Examples follow, with the number agreement in bold type:
pe-so yete-lo epasosuma.
You (two)  will sell fruit/much fruit.
pe-so yete-lo epetomlosuna.
You (two) sold fruit/much fruit.
