Roof cover? Interesting..... if this was armor, i would call it scale mail...as in it looks like dragonscale. As for a iron covered roof of a house....the ones in the usa, not made of metal are slate roofs, terra cotta (baked clay) shingle roof, thatch roof(England)....usually named for material used.

90% of our roofs are asphalt shingles. Metal, slate, clay - these are all exceptions. In Europe, they have a lot of clay roofs though.

In fact, this is a picture of armor (from Wiki), I thought it conveys very well the idea of the roofing that I have in mind!
