The History/A history/History

Hi friends,

Please explain the usage of the articles in the following cases:

1. "A history of the English language" - I've got a series of lectures with this name.
2. "The history of English" - a really cool movie on youtube

Why it's "A history" in the first case and "The history" in the second one?

To add more to my confusion, the title of the youtube page with this cartoon is "History of English", without any article.

"English" vs "The English language" is quite understandable, but I'm really confused with this "history"

Thanks!
