Singing in ASL

Found this while browsing Facebook, thought the community might be interested. I have an aunt who's very much into the deaf community up in Freemont, CA, so I was familiar with the basics of how deaf poetry worked, but it's definitely interesting seeing the concept in application (even if in this case it's more a translation than a native piece of ( Read more... )

On youtube there is a deaf troupe that interprets songs and they have the videos. Here is one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bzPmw0Xwc0&feature=related

There are other troupes and deaf 'singers' / actors on youtube you can find from there (this troupe is a little weird for me because I still can't decide if that is a woman or a man and it bothers me not knowing... i think if i knew it would be better and i could stop being jealous of his/her nails)

The signs are not the actual lyrics, so you might be a little lost if you don't know ASL, but it is very interesting. There are other troupes on youtube too, so if you can't find them, lmk and I'll link you.

Watch the "Womanizer" video by CaptainL0ver. He is really really attractive (imho) and the visuals a really cool.

in my Cross-Cultural Linguistics class, we were introduced to some ASL poetry.

Ever since I first saw it over a year ago, I've been impressed by this ASL interpretation of a Marilyn Manson song. Hate the song, love the way the interpreter really gets into the spirit of it.
