"Transgermanic Etymological Dictionary"?

Jun 10, 2009 17:42

I'm looking for a sort of etymological dictionary, but I'm not sure if it exists, and was wondering if someone here could tell me if they've ever come across such a thing, what it's called if it does exist, or if someone could even direct me towards one.

I'm looking for a dictionary--or an online database, more likely--that shows etymologically related words across Germanic languages. So, for example I could look up the German word 'scheu' and find the words in Icelandic, English, Dutch, etc. that are related to that word (if any), so, 'shy' in modern English, for example, 'schuw' in Dutch, 'sceoh' in Old English, and so on. Key would be the ability to search in any Germanic language, German, Danish, English, Norwegian, etc.

Thanks.
