This is probably more than just a bit off-topic, but I'll just try and post it anyways.

A very good friend of mine has a mild case of dyslexia, meaning that while his abilities to read are just fine, his spelling is very far below average. His major in university is Egyptian studies and they also have to both read and write hieroglyphs - transcribing hieroglyphs into our arabic letters is what he has problems with while learning the hieroglyphs comes easily.

I teach him Japanese once a week and have noticed that he picks up the characters quite fast and with less difficulties than I have seen with others who do NOT have dyslexia.

This brings me to my question: has anyone ever tried of trying to using scripts like Japanese or Egyptian to help people understand/remember correct spelling? I tried the usual forums and the idea of using pictures to remember spelling by is by no means new, but using Japanese or Egyptian appears to be something nobody has tried yet. Did anyone here ever come across anything like that or could imagine that it could possibly work?

Thanks! :D
