At top left is a wand shop; the X at bottom right is a staircase down to the next level, and there's a secret tunnel leading north-south.

According to my PeraPeraKun, it means turtle, and the reading is bie1 in Chinese, or hetsu/suppon in Japanese.

it's a kind of animal that has a hard shell which chinese eat (make into soup). Probably you can call it a "turtle" but defintely not those sea turtles.
By the way, the word for tortoise/turtle is 龜, so you can see it is related to your word ;)
