forgive me if this is obvious/stupid/etc, but i still don't know a lot about phonetics: is it common for /ŋ/ (the ng in -ing) to nasalize the vowel before it? i know that when /ŋ/ shifts to /n/, like in "singing -> singin'", the vowel sounds very different. i would imagine that this is the case, since whenever i say "bank" i have the tendency to want to pronounce it with an "m" at the beginning. is there a special term for this with nasal consonants and vowels, or is it just assimilation? or am i just imagining this whole thing, -let me know-
