1. Mean?
Really? How??
Drew has been proven to be a caring individual who has a soft spot for May.(that haters ignore to admit, of course. The Shipping!).
Drew's character was presented (much like the Gary persona.) as a critical and confident rival who seemed to appear as a jerk, but not that he never did change. He had gone under a prominent character development as the time went on in AG series. Later becoming friends with May and the co. But still, all we haters get to remember about his character is how mean he was. Which is unfair.
2. Gary rip off?
Drew never was as over-insulting as Gary was. (As Gary's catchphrase was "smell'ya later") Drew has revealed to have a nice side also, which is way bigger than his other(hated) side.
3. Getting in the way of advancshipping?
Isn't it obvious by now that Ash doesn’t have any love interest in anyone? he views everyone as his friends and treats all his female companions EQUALLY! He is a good friend to all those girls he met and travelled with. No less, no more.
Among Misty/May/Dawn/Iris/Serena, only Misty and Serena have crush on Ash. Dawn, May and Iris are mutually friendzned with him.
4. Drew is stealing May away from Ash?
Like seriously? Did Drew ever force/torture May to blush over him? or to come after him to Johto??
It was May's decision. Don't throw your frustration over the guy just because he is getting the girl to follow him.
Also another retarded reason to bash Drew, "Hey it was Ash who saved May's life, not Drew. So how come Drew could be shipped with May instead of Ash?"
I mean come on. Drew wasn't a part of those episodes/movie where May was in danger. He can't just appear in thin air in some episode to protect someone. Besides, it's always reserved for the hero/protagonist to save people's life, not a side character like Drew. We can clearly see that Ash is the 'chosen one' in every damn thing to 'save the day' for everyone. Thats not Drew's fault/discredit that he didn't get to have the honour to do that for May what Ash got to do.
And also, May never did save Ash's life either,it was Misty who did save Ash's life, Twice. Does it mean you have to hate May/& love Misty canonically. Same goes for Ash and Drew.
Just like Misty saving Ash's life doesn’t stop you from shipping May with Ash, similarly, Ash saving May's life doesn’t stop the shippers from shipping May with other characters instead of Ash. So get over it.
5. Drew’s gay?
Drew's not gay. He's straight. He likes women. He has not shown interest in Harley but May. Calling him Gay is a horrible bluff.
6. Does contests?
Is that a reasonable reason to hate him? Many male trainers do contests. Even Ash did multiple times. Doing contests is nothing offensive(or to hate) in it.
7. Contestshipping?
Okay alright. You have all rights to hate a ship, but bashing/hating a character because of a shipping? (Sigh).
In short, plese put the shipping issue and hateful mind aside and try to see how nice of a character some rivalish guys too can be!!!!
Also if we can worship much arrogant characters than Drew, like Paul, Gary, Harley, then we can give Drew a chance too.
Paul and Gary were also arrogant rivals, but them being "cool/powerdul trainers" have saved their characters. While Drew is the only one here receiving ignorant comments.
Also you people always complain how mean Drew was to May...but look at Harley (some Drew haters like him, even though he's much worse than Drew.) Harley wanted to sabotage May's contests, and Drew was there to protect her from Harley. You people bear green flags for characters like Harley, Paul (the crulest among all rivals), but you guys hit red flag at Drew just because he's getting in the way of shippig and not a topclass cool trainers as Gary, Paul, who were much more cocky than him.
