Race for the Cure 2007 will be happening on Sunday, September 23. I realize that this is a long time away, but registration is open now through August 31, and the sooner you register, the more fundraising can happen.
Breast cancer is one of the few issues that I make an effort for. My godmother is a breast cancer survivor, and it is likely that others of my relatives will have it as they get older: my aunts and mother all grew up in the county in the nation that has the highest rate of breast cancer per capita. Ginny Hancock, my former academic adviser, is also a survivor, and you'll probably see her there the day of the race. Honoring and supporting these women and other people like them is very important to me.
I am heading the formation of a team through CubeSpace. Registration costs $25 if you do it online, $30 if you send in by mail. There are options to Walk for the Cure, Run for the Cure or Sleep in for the Cure. The race schedule is
here, and I will be doing the 5k walk, which starts at 9 a.m. The benefit to going with a team is that you have a guaranteed group of people to walk/run/whatever with, and also we might be able to come up with still hats. This is for people of all genders, ages, etc.
If you are interested in participating with me, please send me an e-mail (rabyed at gmail) or leave a comment, and I'll get you the information you need. If you want to participate individually, visit the web site and they can help you out there.
