Mint Julep

Went to two happy hours last week. Tuesday, went with some folks from Geopol mostly to the Science Club. Goodbye drinks to a girl I had never talked to. It was nice to meet people I see every day. Thursday went to Clarendon to the  Ballroom. The phi taus were there, met some girls Jackson knew (through Ann Ledford) and a guy who couldn't shed tears. The balcony was very crowded. Had a good Friday at work. Friday night did nothing.

Saturday went to the Pre-Derby Party. Well, it was fun, I won' t forget it. Dinah Sue and I stood on the balcony of the Collingwood Manor and watched everyone come in with their outfits, people really got creative with their outfits. Dinah pretended to be Joan Rivers and suggested that next year someone should do it for real. Saw Edmund Sauer in real life, he was in my fraternity at Centre before I got there, he won a Truman scholarship, but I had heard not excessively positive things about him, yeah, he basically was corteous, but somewhat dissinterested, hard to imagine me being that way if I met a young Phi Tau in DC, I guess he is important, but I think he hit his peak already, one of those people who go out and get awards but ultimately lack unique talent, I'll keep my eye on him though. Saw Megan Spindell and Cindy Searcy, well what can I say about that ... may be seeing them at Taste of the South ... Spindell works for Ron Lewis, the guy my Dad's roomate is running against for 2cnd congressional district. Had my longest conversation, maybe my first with Leslie Stout, she was Theta president, fairly cute, two years older, so I never really tried to strike up a conversation, I remember her smiling at me once in the library ... she went to Cambridge after graduation ... works for Ed Whitfield.

Rode back with Jane, think she was a little over the limit. Her friends asked me about global warming and drilling in the arctic. Oh, I met a guy wearing a kilt there, who was from Scotland .... also, wow, Charlie Grizzle, I really have to talk to him sometime. He gave Bill Sanders his start, the Kentucky Society is a network for better or worse ... didn't know Bill Samuelson was friends with Kent Reed. The view of the Potomac was great, also saw a guy that I think went to my Spanish class for one day ...

Thought I would go out Friday night, didn't ... the heat and all the free drinks, made me tired. Today I bought Foucault's Pendelum, thought it would be about Michele Foucault, but no, ironice that Foucault dealt with the Pentagon ... does the Pendelum have anything to do with a Pentagon ... its all about Pagan worshp I suppose ... I picked up the book next to a Dan Brown collection in Books a Million ... guess they thought I would be interested.

This is getting too long but I need to remember to express my feelings about Mendelssohn sometime.
