Righty, I've been prodded by assorted people about this and kind of feel I should make an effort, it will probably last until next week when I am too busy again but I've decided to start blogging about the running of the record label again. I warn in advance that this will be exceptionally dull but it might help other people in the same situation and be vaguely interesting to some people. I did start doing it on my personal site years ago (
http://www.lineoutrecords.com/bob/) but that kind of trailed off. I'm going to attempt to keep this as public as possible so may have to leave out some details on current projects.
So, anyway, after 3 weeks of waiting to hear back from
PPL* about the Line Out membership I gave in and phoned them up. Spoke to a very nice chap, it seems my membership forms have been lost in the post as my account is marked as waiting for them to come in but he gave me all the information I need for our ISRC Codes* over the phone. Now I just need to harrass
CatCo so I can register the codes to the tracks. I was worried that we would need MCPS* membership for this but as it turns out we don't so that's a pile of paperwork, time and cash saved. My only remaining confusion is if we need to register tracks in order of release in which case I need to do the Trauma Pet album first. It's not a huge issue but I wanted to get DeathBoy sorted tomorrow if possible.
Once we have PPL and ISRC codes sorted we can FINALLY sort out the Trauma Pet digital distribution (assuming our choice of distro doesn't require MCPS in which case I will go on a shotgun rampage through Maidenhead).
Next important job is to get an MCPS license for the Jetstream Lovers release as there will be a cover on it, I need to do the same for Reincarnationfish as we want to release his cover of Killing in the Name of, I'm not certain how to go about this so I'm going to have to call them and make a tit out of myself on the phone again.
I have a magazine ad I've failed to design for the last four days to get sorted tonight. I'm attempting to achieve a style suitable for all recent and fortcoming releases which is proving hard. How the hell do I design something appropriate for DeathBoy, Trauma Pet, Jetstream Lovers and Reincarnationfish?
The heady, glamorous world of record labels.

PPL - Phonographic Performance Limited. The people that collect royalties if any of our stuff gets played on the radio/tv/etc.
ISRC - Unique code for each song released, allows the PPL to easily track whose tracks have been played where and make sure the right people get the cash as opposed to it all being dumped into Madonnas account but that's a rant for another day.
MCPS - Mechanical Copyright Protection Society -
http://www.mcps.co.uk/ I have my reservations about signing up to them.
