Thank goodness it's Friday. Work has been hectic this week, to say the least. I had a big class action settlement blow-up. Well, not the actual settlement, but the client figured out the payments incorrectly, after everyone had been informed as to what they were getting in the settlement (over 400 people) and that caused a big uproar. Fortunately, the client has agreed to pay each class member whatever is higher-new numbers or old numbers-but it's been a real mess at work this week. I never want to see an excel spreadsheet with banquet server hours worked on it again!!!!!!
No real plans for tonight. Tomorrow we're having a type of progressive dinner at our house for work. It's also a cooking contest at the same time. About 10 people are coming to our house for appetizers, and to bake my favorite chocolate cake. Then we'll head over to a partner's house where we'll meet up with another group, and have dinner. Supposedly it's catered, and is steak & lobster & open bar, so I'll all for that!!!! Dogs are also getting groomed tomorrow and Daphne has a check-up for her stomach/inflammatory bowel disease. She's on a low dose of steroids, but her stomach is still making weird noises after she eats sometimes. I'm not so sure the food they have her on right now is really the right one. Anyway, tonight I need to get drinks and appetizers for the party tomorrow. Thinking some simple things from Trader Joes, since we'll be heading over to the partner's house for a much bigger spread of food.
On Sunday I need to get ready for my best friend's baby shower that I am co-hosting the following Saturday in Seattle. I still need one more gift for one of the games, and I need to tie all of the tags and ribbons onto the favors (cookie cutters in the shape of baby carriages). All of the prizes are nice baking cookbooks. I'm trying to do a baking/cookie theme with the baby carriage as the main "shape." She's having a boy, but we didn't want to go overboard with the boy stuff. I get to take Friday off of work, as I'm flying up on Thursday night. I'm excited-I haven't seen her since the wedding!
After the shower we've got only one more week until our trip to San Jose/Cabo. I CANNOT wait! We're having dinner at "C" for our anniversary-it's the Charlie Trotter restaurant in our hotel. And I finally got Steve an anniversary gift. I decided to go with the traditional thing and get paper. Ended up tracking down a vintage book written by Winston Churchill. Steve has read many of Churchill's books, so I think he'll be pleasantly surprised. It's not really for reading because it's old, but it's a nice collector's item for him to have. I have no idea what he's getting me. I don't think he even knows what the traditional gift is. I'm staying out of it. We agreed for our wedding last year that there would be no gifts. However, I did put together a picture box for him of some engagement pictures and wedding-related stuff and wrote a nice card, which I gave to him the night before the wedding. Steve, in true form, ran out to buy me a card and flowers around noon on the day of the wedding. I know, I know, I said no gifts, but something small would have been good!!!! Anyway, I told him he can make up for the gift on our anniversary. But we've poured so much money into the house, furniture, and Daphne's ailment this year that I don't think he's got a lot of extra $$$ to spend. Couple that with the fact that it's my birthday while we're in Mexico and the poor guy is really going to be broke.
Steve is still really unhappy with his job, so I think the vacation is just what he needs. In September we're going to Vegas for a long weekend to celebrate Steve's best friend's 30th birthday. He and his wife are flying in from Minnesota, and we'll drive up Friday night. They are staying at Mandalay Bay. I really wanted to stay at the Wynn, but it was completely booked for the weekend we're going!!!! Since they are staying at MB, we decided to stay there, too, but are actually going to stay at the TheHotel part of Mandalay Bay. It's a new, contemporary addition to MB. Should be fun. I haven't been to Vegas in something like 4 years!
Well, I simply must get back to work. I need to bill hours and get a bonus in December!!!!!!!!
