Day Thirty: Whatever Tickles Your Fancy

My new baby.

Okay, so here's the story. Yesterday was my birthday. (Yay!) My party was at my parents' house. We ate, hung out watching TV and movies, and just being totally social and low key. Then came the presents. I opened up everything and then my mom is all, "Wait isn't there one more? Let me go check!" and she heads to her room while we wait. She comes out with the box for me to unwrap, and the way it was set I saw the "Q" (which you can see on the wallpaper in the picture) first, and the box was sideways. I thought it was a music note, so okay... a sound system maybe? So then I'm moving the box trying to figure out what this is and on the other side of the box is "Compaq" across it and here I am in utter disbelief and everyone's asking me, "Do you know what it is?" and I can't even speak and finally I, rather meekly actually, go "A new computer?" And so it was.

Okay, seriously... this thing is the coolest ever (well okay... there are probably way more badass laptops out there, but after you check the specs out, come back and read the fact it costs as much as a high end netbook.)

Specs:
250GB hard drive (that spins at 7400 RPM. Apparently that's unheard of in a laptop, let alone a budget one)
Intel Celeron 900 processor (2.2 GHz)
2GB RAM (with the ability to upgrade to 4GB)
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M integrated graphics chipset with 797MB video memory

In comparison, the specs for my old laptop (a Compaq Presario C501NR):
80GB hard drive
Intel Celeron M 430 processor (1.73 GHz)
512MB RAM (with the ability to upgrade to 2GB)
Intel GMA 950 Dynamic Video Memory Technology 3.0 integrated graphics chipset with 64MB video memory

Despite what the System Requirements Lab says, this thing passed it biggest test: baby runs The Sims 3 like a friggen dream. It is so smooth, you have no idea. (Which means it'll run The Sims 2 so smoothly and quickly it'll make my head spin!) I can put my Sims 2 CC back in my game!

The keyboard layout will take some getting used to (I've had my C501NR for three years!), and I still need to transfer my files, but OMG! I am already in love!
