Day Thirteen: A Fictional Book
I was looking through my stack of books I'm currently reading (cause I seem to not have the attention span to read just one), and I wanted to review/recommend one I hadn't discussed on day four (so no dystopian novels, lol!) and I finally settled on this one, Somebody Else's Daughter by Elizabeth Brundage.
At it's deepest core, it's about a former drug addicted man, Nate, who moves from NYC to the Berkshires to teach at the school his biological daughter - adopted by a wealthy Berkshire family since Nate and his late wife were too strung out at the time of her birth to be proper parents - attends.
But, in doing so (and without giving too much away even though I'm just now getting to this part of the book), Nate ends up being the catalyst in the entire unraveling of this "perfect" little community in Massachusetts.
If you're looking to go into this book expecting it to be simply a figurative struggle between a biological father and the people who adopted his child, like I was, that's not even the half of what is explained. And, trust me, when the narrative shifts focus for the first time from Nate and his situation, you will probably wonder who the hell is that and what do they have to do with the story. But fear not, Brundage ties it all together... Somehow.
