Unemployment
So, I was told today that my contract will not be renewed for next year. My impression is that this is due to budget cuts, but seeing as I wasn't really given a reason as to why I won't have my current job next year, I can't be sure.
The principal (I'm a teacher in case you forgot) came to my room first thing this morning, while I was teaching class, and handed me an envelope. He said it was from the central office and when I began to question him about it, he said I had to read it and pretty much ran away.
I spoke to him in his office later on, to thank him for the opportunity that I had this year, and the closest thing he gave me for a reason was that I hadn't progressed as quickly as he would have liked and someone had to go because the system I used to work in is in such a state of shambles.
As a result of the budget problems, the two new first year teachers are the ones that got cut. Us, and a Spanish teacher they've been trying to axe for two years now.
Looking forward, I'll continue applying for a job somewhere else and on Friday I go to the Lesley University Career Office to figure out what my prospects are outside of teaching.
I expect I'll be good come August.
