My mom flew down to Texas last week to visit me over four days. We had the best time! I took Friday and Monday off of work to spend time with her, and we did so much stuff. A quick rundown:
Thursday: I picked her up from the aiport around 6 PM. We went to the house, made tacos for dinner, and had family night with Tony's parents. Much fun was had by all.
Friday: Mom and I spent most of the day shopping. We went to Ridgmar Mall and went to Old Navy and New York & Company to get me some desperately needed new work clothes. We had lunch at the mall (Sonic), then went to the nail salon to get pedicures. We then went home, played Hell (a card game) and waited for Tony to get home. The three of us went to dinner at Red, Hot & Blue. Me and mom then headed to Bonehead Tattoo because I had (halfway) jokingly suggested earlier in the day that we go get matching mother-daughter tattoos, and she said yes! So we had picked out a design we liked (a cute little bumblebee), and went to go get them done, but the place was PACKED! So we made an appointment for Sunday night. We then went back to the house, and stayed up for awhile watching TV.
Saturday: Mom and I went to the aquarium in Dallas. It was pretty fun but a lot different than we expected. There were a lot of birds, monkeys and snakes, and a lot less fish than we expected there to be. But it was still fun. We then went to DSW so I could get new work shoes, then went to Eskimo Hut so Mom could experience drive-thru margaritas. :o) Then it was back home and we played Hell again. When Tony got home, we went to dinner at Red Lobster, then rented "21" and watched it at home.
Sunday: The three of us went to breakfast at Waffle House, then Mom and I went to the movies and saw "Mamma Mia!" It was pretty cute, but I wasn't completely bowled over like I was when I saw other movie musicals like "Chicago" or "Hairspray." We then stopped by Wal-Mart, Costco, and Michael's to pick up some random stuff I was needing, then went to get our tattoos! Mama got the bumblebee beside the blue flower she already had on the outside of her left ankle, and I got a blue flower that looks similar to hers, as well as the same bumblebee, also on the outside of my left ankle (bringing my grand total up to six!). We then picked Tony up from the house and went to dinner at Olive Garden. We drove thru Eskimo Hut again, at Mama's request, then went home and watched "Juno."
Monday: It was a pretty laid-back day. Mom and I went back to DSW so she could try on some shoes, then we went to Bath & Body Works, then the Brighton store at Hulen Mall (where Mom spent quite a bit of money!). We ran some other errands, then went home and played Hell until Tony got home. The air conditioner went out around 4:45 PM or so (inevitable when it's 105 degrees outside for four days straight...), but luckily we noticed before it got too hot inside. Also luckily, Andy is HVAC certified, so he had it fixed in no time! Around 6 PM, Tony, Mom and I headed out to the Ballpark in Arlington for the Rangers vs. Mariners game. Shelli got us amazing seats, and we had a ton of fun. We had hot dogs, beer and peanuts of course...Mom rooted for the Mariners, Tony cheered for the Rangers, and I was torn between who to root for; ha, ha. We headed home after the game, and promptly went to bed.
Today: It was back to work for me. But Tony and Mom came by on my lunch break and had lunch with me at 11:30 AM. It worked out perfectly since my office is right on the way to the airport, and Tony had to have Mom to the airport around 12:45 PM anyway. We went to Quizno's, and now Mom is safely in the air on her way back to Seattle.
I always get so sad when I have to say goodbye to my mom. We have so much fun together and I hate that we live so far apart. I always feel so happy around her. Now that she's gone, I'm trying really hard not to let it get me down. I'm just trying to stay positive in all aspects of my life, and keep the momentum going from the good mood I was in while she was here. :o)
fun times,
mom
