Cold and snow

Dec 20, 2009 08:18

Well, briefly. Yesterday morning it was cold, -6 degrees C. Not used to it, left my gloves in the car at the farmers market and eventually had to give up and hand over to my SO and OS. They both have Raynauds Syndrome (get white fingers at any level of coldness) so do not forget gloves. By heck it was cold. Been warming up ever since, but we have a slight covering of snow and everybody (children and adults) very excited. (Though adults had to worry about driving cars home - after YS's birthday do - and weirdly, our cars tyres are less good at snow than they used to be, which no one mentions until it snows.)

I'm trying not to be cast down by the Copenhagen summit failure thing. Had read somewhere that it was unlikely to make much progress, so we can only hope it will set the stage, start changing mindsets. Its a bit odd to be worrying so much about global warming when our winters are getting colder again. But it is not happening elsewhere and this is a short-term trend predicted by the models. So much for that. We must hope that the US, China and India 'love their children too' and can see a way around dedication to the demands of big corporations, toward using less energy. We waste so much of it. My head is so full of good ideas about how we ought to change our ways, and it is frustrating to watch this headlong rush to throw all our resources away continue.
