Lindsey, THIS KILLED ME. I think my first day on the bus in Baltimore went about like that. Especially the part about not flagging down the bus, or whatever. Although once the regular bus driver learns to recognize you, you could be paying no attention at all/reading a book and he/she would still remember to stop for you.
I took the bus quite often in D.C. as well. I never really grew to love it - I have to say, for all the things I miss about Washington, the commute is NOT one of them.
i think that was one of my problems, that it was MY FIRST DAY riding the bus so the driver didn't think to look for me - also there was a bunch of construction going on in the lane just before the bus stop, so the bus was in the other lane and the view OF ME was sorta blocked until after you had already passed me. but i HATE not knowing what to do! i just stood there being like DO I FLAG IT DOWN? DO I JUST STAND HERE NONCHALANTLY? and then it ZOOMED RIGHT BY ME.
asdjfkl; i wish every day was FIRST BUS DAY.
how long were your bus rides in d.c.? it's less than ten minutes by bus for me so it's not bad.
In Baltimore, my bus ride was about twenty minutes. This was the summer I was temping downtown and Dan had an internship a mile or so down the route from me. So we took the first leg of our bus commute together and then were all BYE DEAR HAVE A GOOD DAY SMOOCH as we went off to different transfers.
In D.C., it was a short little five- or ten-minute ride from the Metro station to my office. But it sucked because it came after a forty-minute train ride and a twenty-minute subway ride.
The conversation after the show Saturday was about bus crazies. Fortunately, you and I and Miranda are neighbors, so we can recreate it and call it business education.
lindesy after reading this i a). laughed hysterically picturing you trying to pry open the doors AFTER you witnessed a crazy mad do it and b). pictured myself doing the same thing (because i haven't ever ridden a bus that wasn't bright yellow) only i could see myself doing this after i MISSED my stop or something. hahaha. and also my mom said she saw you outside the cowboy monkey the other night! but she said she would've had to yell to get your attention(which i'm actaully suprodes she didn't do knowing my mom haha). lol.
i couldn't stop laughing once i got to work and typed the whole thing out. when i saw him doing it i was so embarrassed for him and totally like ZOMG OH WELL HE'S CLEARLY A CRAZY PERSON and then as soon as i got up there and it was GO TIME for me i acted THE SAME WAY. i tried to PULL THE DOORS OPEN! TWICE! sdkjf;slkdj;lkj even when i knew THAT WASN'T HOW IT WORKED.
i wish your mom would've yelled!! was she out LATE? i was at the monkey all night saturday but i wasn't outside until late. YO MAMA IS A PARTY ANIMAL.
yeah my mom got home after midnight and when she walked in i switched off the tv and just looked at her and said "you're late" in a stern voice. and then she was talking like a teenage girl about her night and was all "i saw linnddseeey, but i didn't say hi" and all that. and man o man, lindsey, my mother is THE party animal. hahaha.
haha, I had to ride the bus for the first time fall semester, and I was scared that when I pulled the little wire that everyone would stare at me when i did it. like an alarm would go off or something. so, i didn't do it UNTIL THERE WEREN'T ANY PEOPLE ON THE BUS. then i had to walk a bajillion blocks home.
I AM THE SAME WAY ALWAYS. on public transportation. I DON'T KNOW WHY. i'm just so unfamiliar with it.
I LOVE THAT YOU WAITED UNTIL NOBODY ELSE WAS ON THE BUS. whenever i have to try a new way of getting around i just sit and pray that someone else does everything before i have to so i can follow their lead.
