Nobody Expects the Spanish Inquisition (And Sometimes They Do)
By
LindsayR
Summary: Cougar knew there’d be an interrogation. He’s just waiting for Jensen to make a joke about the Spanish Inquisition.
Pairing: Cougar/Jensen
Rating: PG
Crossover: Losers/Pirates of the Caribbean 4/Highlander (general concepts from the tv show)
Spoilers: Pre-movie Losers, general spoilers for Pirates of the Caribbean 4, and no real spoilers for Highlander.
Author’s Note: A sequel to my drabble “Not So Ancient History”. Written because I couldn’t leave well enough alone and because dustedink and cougars_catnip asked for a sequel. I also threw in a very vague Highlander mention to give Cougar and Jensen the happy ending they deserve. Oh - and all the Spanish is from an English/Spanish translator. Also, since I hate going to the end to read translations, I put them in italics after the Spanish phrases.

He’s no longer comfortable with attention, so having all the Losers eyes on him causes him to shift uneasily in the seat at the kitchen table. He knew there’d be an interrogation. He’s just waiting for Jensen to make a joke about the Spanish Inquisition but so far all the Losers have remained silent as he revealed his past to them and why he is still alive when he’d been dead just hours ago.
“So let me get this straight,” Jensen said from where he sat at the table, watching Cougar with stunned eyes. “You’re immortal and you destroyed the Fountain of Youth. And you’re not immortal from drinking the water but because God made you that way.” He breaks into a huge smile.
Cougar nods. “Si.” He always reverts to his native language when he’s in uncomfortable or stressful situations and this is no exception.
“Dude, that’s huge. You destroyed the Fountain of Youth…the Fountain of Youth! Shit like that isn’t even supposed to be real!” Jensen is practically bouncing up and down in his chair over this revelation.
He is hard pressed not to smile at the excitement in Jensen’s voice. As it was the corners of his mouth can not be flattened and they turn up in amusement in spite of his efforts to keep a straight face. While Clay gives Jensen an exasperated look Cougar studies the reactions of Pooch and Roque.
Roque looks bored, as if the news is not important, but he rarely cares about anything except violence or the next assignment. Pooch on the other hand just watches him with wide, contemplative eyes. He knows the driver will tell Jolene and he is okay with that. Pooch won’t say anything against him and he knows that, more than likely, he’ll find a plate of homemade cookies outside his door within a week.
Clay is the unknown in this situation. He’s always been aware of his CO’s unpredictable nature, especially when it comes to Roque (all that unresolved sexual tension is going to destroy them both one day) and crazy, volatile women. He’s gone over all possible reactions Clay could have to this new development, but ultimately knows that there’s no predicting his CO’s response.
When Clay turns to him seriously and asks, “Is this going to be an issue?” he breathes a sigh of relief.
“No, no sera un problema.” No it will not be an issue.
Clay nods and then glances to Jensen quickly before returning his gaze to Cougar. “And whatever’s going on between you two better not affect the team or I won’t hesitate to put an end to it and both of you. Are we clear?”
“Absolutamente claro.” Absolutely clear.
Clay’s gaze goes back to Jensen who is staring at his CO wide eyed at the knowledge that Clay has so easily accepted and revealed the fact that he and Cougar share feelings beyond that of teammates and friends. He nods enthusiastically earning a grunt from Clay.
“Then we’re done here,” Clay sighs. He starts toward the door. “I need a drink,” he says as the door opens and he walks out into the night. Roque is hot on his heels, content to join him at whatever bar they find and get completely, amazingly, staggeringly drunk. Pooch just tosses him a smile and heads out the door, heading home with the intention of holding Jolene close throughout the night.
Slowly he turns to Jensen who is smiling brightly. He moves out of his chair, going to stand in front of Jensen, the hacker’s legs braced on either side of his own. Staring down into Jensen’s eyes he asks, “Estas de acuerdo con esto, mi corazon?” Are you okay with this, my heart?
Jensen smiles, having long ago learned his best friend’s language for moments like this. “Yeah, Cougs. I’m great. I do have a confession to make though.”
“Vaya por delante.” Go ahead.
Jensen scratches the back of his head, blushing lightly as he averts his eyes from Cougar for a moment. “Uh…yeah…so the whole immortal thing…um, you’re not the only one in this room who’s going to live forever.” Jensen’s eyes shoot back to his and hold his gaze. “Surprise.”
It takes a moment for him to grasp the concept behind Jensen’s words and he knows that later there will be many more questions and another team meeting, but for now the knowledge that Jensen is immortal, that he will not have to watch the hacker grow old and die, fills him with relief and love. He loves Jake Jensen. And, being a man of few words, he speaks with actions instead. He lowers his face to Jensen’s and captures his lips in a slow sensual kiss that soon turns hungry and intense as they stumble out of the kitchen toward their room.
It could have gone wrong in many ways, but he’s glad to know that what he thought before, when he first woke from his death, was correct. The Losers took it all in stride and the fact that he is immortal is just another day for them.
