Place: Vino Place, Florence
Oh I really really like Italy. It's exactly like I always pictured it. Florence is a smaller city and has a very old look and feel to it. Very laid back - like the movies. The very narrow cobblestone streets are decorated with people riding on bicycles and mopeds, and there are no redlights. It's such a pretty place.
This afternoon we took a walking tour and saw the Santa Croce church and the Duomo Cathedral. We walked inside the Duomo, but couldn't walk underneath the dome. Evidently there was work being done. We walked into the Signoria Square and saw the David and the Neptune Fountain, and the Rape of the Sabine women, one of my favorites from the Baroque period.

As much of the bapistry, facade, dome and bell tower as I could possibly get. Large building. Gorgeous.
Serendipitous-no-people-in-the-shot-beautiful-Italian-scene. What luck. I'm framing this one.
And then, oh how I needed a shower. We got checked into our hotel where I got cleaned up and reorganized my luggage. I'm kinda running out of room. (Why why WHY do I collect snowglobes? Why can't I collect smaller things like thimbles or spoons??)
Marcus and I have been spending most of our time with one of the mothers, Vicki, and her son John Michael. Vicki and John Michael have been letting me room with them most nights, so that there aren't 4 other girls squeezing in another room.
We headed out to explore Florence and I had my first taste of gelato. I tried the tiramisu flavored gelato and it's got to be the best thing I've tried on this trip so far.
Now we are in a lovely little cafe where I am throroughly enjoying a bellini and complimentary sandwiches since we've wandered in at happy hour. I need to learn how to say "happy hour" in Italiano.
I've heard dinner will be good tonight. Veal with penne and pesto sauce. I am so excited about the food in this country!
