It's not like she's enslaved, it's more like she's enthralled.

I was thinking about restringing my electric guitar just now, and the strings I like are sometimes hard to find. I usually have to order them from MusiciansFriend. I like them because I'm lazy about changing my strings and even lazier about playing the guitar, and these strings last longer (supposedly). So I cruised on over to the maker of the string's page, and there's a short romantic novella included in the description of the experience of the strings. WTF? Talk about demographic issues. Are women buying Dean Markley Steel Blues? Or do they mean to say that these strings will likely get you laid?

“Their record low temperature,” I explained, “is seventy degrees below zero.”
“Is that right?” she asked playfully, nuzzling against my neck. “I wonder how the people there stay warm.”
By this time, I was in tune.
“Let me show you.”
-70°F is cold all right, but it’s not even close to being cold enough for us. In order to cryogenically treat our Blue Steel strings, the temperature has to reach -320°F (roughly the temperature of Neptune, a mere 35 million miles farther from the Sun than Earth).

I saw Tom Morello and the Hold Steady with Jeff, Walter, James, Sean, Emily, and Val. Morello really should not sing. He really should not write music either. It all felt so borrowed. I swear every melody and every bass line was familiar. I spent the night trying to guess what song he borrowed from (if it wasn't an indirect cover a la Dirty Deeds by AC/DC but the words changed to bash Bush). I suppose that's the point of folk music (he kind of said so himself) and I suppose I was supposed to care more about the lyrics. But eh. He really didn't even show off his true chops that often. He played a few measures of some Audioslave and Rage songs as outtros to his shitty songs, but then didn't play them. Teaser.

THS was pretty awesome. They played all my favorite songs, but right at the very end so I was worried I wasn't going to hear them. They'll be at the Courtyard Cafe (what what?) in April. We will mos def need to get tickets to that.
