While I try to get my guts up enough to go down to town for a fika (remember that I'll have to hack my way through hordes of festival zombies to get to the coffee) I thought I'd let you know that the dragonfly excursion last Saturday was a success. We saw several different kinds of dragonflies and I got to hold three of them while we decided what kind it was.
The most splendid moment was when I got away from the others for a bit to look for blackberries and stumbled upon a sunlit clearing. The wind rustled the leaves and seven big, brown and blue dragonflies swarmed around me as I stood there just watching. It was beautiful!
And I got blackberries.
One of the other members of our group was brave enough to wade out in the lake to try and catch one of the elusive big, blue dragonflies so we could have a closer look. He didn't get it, what he did get was leeches. Poor guy.
Well, I was well fed, found blackberries, saw and held several dragonflies and got to see twenty grownup people prance around in tall grass with waving butterfly nets. It inspired me to dream of a picnic with an escapistic theme. Prettily dressed people with butterfly nets, an old gramophone, pillows and blankets, wine served in real glasses (preferably champagne if you ask me), maybe some croquet. It would be lovely, I'm sure. Next summer perhaps.
holiday celebration,
