Well, I've had Solstice dinners before, but none like this.
People showed up at our place dressed in black, sporting fezes and red ties. I was sadly unaware of this (I probably work too much) and had my new, pretty skirt on. L showed up later and had her hair up with a tentacled pin! Love it!
Music was from A Very Scary Solstice and An Even Scarier Solstice by HPLHS.
Antipasto: Whole, fried squid with parsley, lemon and garlic. Garlic bread and lotus roots.
Pasta: Pasta dumplings, colored black with octopus ink, filled with salmon served with a white wine sauce and a light salad.
Main course: Pizza, toppings varied but the main attraction was the sliced octopus and the Elder sign traced in olives.
Desert: A small Sentinel hill of pistachio ice cream, an ovenbaked fig with sugar, madeira boiled raisins and ginger. The fig was cut open in a tentacle kind of way and perched on top of the ice cream.
For the starter we had Solstice beer, for the dinner afterward Mythos beer. In between we had two kinds of wine (pedigree eludes me).
We finished the evening with a movie, Dagon. It wasn't horrible at all. A lot of running around screaming, but hey, that's normal in a Lovecraftian movie. And shuffling of course. There has to be shuffling. We had dried fish and dried shredded octopus as snacks for the movie. I remain unconvinced of it's edibility...
A good time was had and, lo and behold, the sun rose today as well.
I'm relieved.
