Thanks so much! That was my first AU, and it was especially hard to keep Kirk, Kirk and not make him Chris (IMO, Kirk really needs a starship, no matter where he is).
You have so beautifully captured the emotions here -- English doesn't seem to have the right word. Something on the border between acceptance and bittersweet regret, with edges of melancholy and empty longing.
Those are pretty wonderful words right there--thank you so much. I have quite a thing for McCoy and his burnt bridges, but I think there are at least some sunny funtimes in L.A. ahead for the poor man.
Oh, this was wonderful. Your writing is such a pleasure to read, so smooth and natural, and I loved sinking into this universe. Both characters were believable and real (as was the sex, with its little snags and imperfections -- and all the hotter for it). I like how Jim sees Leonard and accepts him where he is but encourages him to want more, to be more truly himself. I also enjoyed his honest reactions to Leonard's hotness. *g* Maybe one of these days Leonard will believe him.
I had such an evil *bwahaha* when I thought about giving Leonard performance anxiety--I'm glad you liked that.
I tend to write the same dynamic--reluctant Leonard, self-actualized Jim--pretty much all the time, but I feel liek it's justified in canon. I see Jim becoming the kind of leader who brings out the best in his team, and McCoy being the kind of guy who can do anything as long as he's forced into the position (as in the movie) and allowed to bitch as his release valve. Thank you so much for the kind comment!

(I'm sorry, I'm terrible at comments) This is lovely and hot, but also sad in a way I can't quite articulate coherently.
